International Guitarist and Songwriter Hiroya Tsukamoto Showcases His Tranquil Soundscapes at the Nicolet College Theatre
Musician Hiroya Tsukamoto brings his soothing, melodic acoustic guitar sound to Nicolet College Theatre audiences for a memorable one-night only performance on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018. His music evokes a sense of peace and tranquility and will transform you to a relaxing getaway in your mind. “I enjoy traveling to different places and like to share stories of where I wrote the songs,” says Tsukamoto.
Originally from Kyoto, Japan, Tsukamoto’s one-of-a-kind style blends traditional Japanese instrumentals with the energy of Latin and north American folk music. Tsukamoto began his musical career strumming his fingers on a bluegrass banjo; but as a teen he lived with a host family in Mexico as part of an exchange program and was inspired to try a different instrument. “My host brother played these cool Latin rhythms and he taught me how to play the guitar,” says Tsukamoto. Tsukamoto has performed on stage around the world and says he appreciates smaller venues because of their effect on his music. “The acoustic guitar is a very intimate instrument so I can amplify the sound depending on what effect I want to convey,” says Tsukamoto.
Tsukamoto attended college in Japan and majored in Spanish, but then received a scholarship to attend Boston’s Berklee College of Music. During his time there, he formed a group called Interoceanico (inter-oceanic); consisting of musicians from different continents. Tsukamoto also pursued a solo career with his nationwide performances gaining impressive reviews. According to The Boston Herald, “A Japanese guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto takes us to an impressionistic journey.” Tsukamoto released two albums, “Heartland” and “Places” both which feature Tsukamoto’s impressive instrumental compositions and wide-ranging vocal work in multiple languages.
Hiroya Tsukamoto will be performing live at the Nicolet Theatre on Friday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
