Pre-college Academy

Environmental Science Academy

You’ll literally “get your feet wet” and help the Northwoods environment by collecting water samples from local waterways in the hunt for aquatic invasive species (AIS). After several field trips to work with Department of Natural Resources and AIS professionals on the water, you’ll return to campus labs to analyze and identify your finds. You’ll document your fieldwork and lab results with digital video cameras, and then learn to edit footage in Nicolet’s Digital Media Lab to produce a series of short, educational videos about the danger of the spread of AIS.

Engineering Academy

Examine the multi-faceted field of engineering. We’ll explore engineering applications for aeronautics, architecture, electronics, and manufacturing. You’ll learn and apply basic engineering design processes to define, build, and test solutions to various engineering situations. Activities include designing a boat, building a computer network, constructing a glider, and working with robots. A field trip to a local manufacturer is planned so you can see engineering careers in the real world.

Health Sciences Academy

If you think you may be interested in health care… you need to be a part of this Academy. You’ll interact with Nicolet’s high-tech human patient simulator to perform injections and obtain vital signs, view x-rays, and even wear surgical attire. Working in teams, you’ll examine various organisms in the lab and study the relationships of medical conditions, diseases, and other health issues. Planning and creating simple healthy meals and snacks is also a part of the Academy. You’ll even keep a digital video record of your activities.
