Fall Educational and Social Events for Seniors with Learning in Retirement Program

LIR members tour the Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport. The 2026-2027 Learning in Retirement year will kick off September 9 at Nicolet College.

Nicolet College invites area seniors to explore the Learning in Retirement (LIR) program this fall with over 30 classes and events designed to bring fun, diverse, and culturally enriching programming to Northwoods retirees. The Learning in Retirement program will feature an exciting fall 2026 lineup, beginning with the Fall Kickoff event on September 9 at the Nicolet College campus (RSVP required). 

LIR members can enjoy a variety of offerings in the fall lineup including “Information on Vaccines in 2026,” and “Foods from the Great Gatsby Era.” Hear interesting stories from “Ed the Diver” and his “mermaid” Christie, about the many lakes and rivers they have helped clean up and the treasures they have uncovered. 

The popular Ced Vig Nature Series, in collaboration with LIR, returns with expert-led presentations at Nicolet College such as “The Holmboe Conifer Forest,” “Connecting with our Night Sky: How to Preserve & Protect Dark Skies in the Northwoods,” “Lake Sciences Basics,” and “Loon Rescue in the Northwoods.” Sessions will be offered in person at Nicolet College and virtually via Zoom. 

Beyond the classroom, members can enjoy unique excursions and social events, including tours of a Christmas Tree Farm and Cranberry Marsh. The ever-popular “Lunch Bunch,” offers members the chance to connect over great food while exploring area restaurants.   

LIR at Nicolet College is a membership-based program providing short-term learning opportunities for retired and semi-retired individuals. For the annual membership fee of just $50, members can join anytime and gain access to a variety of engaging classes and events each fall and spring.
