Nicolet College Learning in Retirement Kicks Off Winter/Spring 2022 Session

Category

The Learning in Retirement program at Nicolet College has launched a new season of offerings designed for active retirees looking to pursue new interests while staying engaged with like-minded individuals.

“It’s always exciting to see new ideas for classes come together and see the enthusiasm in the people taking these classes as well as the presenters who developed the topics at hand,” said Brenda Peltier, Nicolet 50-plus coordinator.

Some classes will meet only once while others will meet once a week over several weeks from early February through May.

Peltier noted that the LIR is still cautiously transitioning out of pandemic mode with some in-person offerings and other presentations staying in the virtual world.

“The pandemic has been challenging for everyone and I know many of our members enjoy getting together in person,” she said. “The social aspect of LIR is a big draw for many so we have decided to have some of the classes in-person where people can safely gather. We did have some face-to-face classes in our last session and that went well so we are continuing with that model.”

All of the rooms where in-person classes will meet are large spaces to ensure adequate physical distancing. Nicolet also requires that masks be worn when inside college buildings.

The upcoming slate of classes covers a wide variety of topics that include one that explores the many aspects of You Tube, another that delves into the intricacies of Wisconsin English, a tour of the Almon Bog just south of Rhinelander, and the physically active “Sole” Mates series where people get together once a week for a hike in the scenic Northwoods.

Other classes include an Introduction to Computer Basics, Great Masters of Western Painting, Square Dancing, the popular Ernie’s Matinee Movies, a 5,000-mile Motorcycle Travelogue with Petra Pietrzak, a look at the History of the Veterans Administration, and Women in American History.

Cost is $45 for an annual LIR membership, which runs from July 1 to June 30. Members can take as many or as few classes as they like.
