What is Safe Zone?

The Safe Zone Training team is a volunteer team which provides safe zone training to all faculty and staff with the goal of making Nicolet College a more welcoming and inclusive environment to LGBTQ+ students and community members.

Safe Zone trainings are opportunities to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, gender and sexuality, and examine prejudice, assumptions and privilege.

What are Safe Zone badges?

Around campus, you may see the following badge displayed in staff offices. This badge is given to participants upon completion of the training. Staff displaying this badge are aware that they can be an initial resource for students and community members looking for a safe space.

Staff displaying the sticker have gone through a Safe Zone training and use the badge as a way of communicating to students, community members, and other staff that they are open to talking about and being supportive of LGBTQ+ individuals and identities. Note: Sometimes it is simply trying to communicate LGBTQ+ friendliness or say, “I’m an ally!”

Facilitators of the training ensure that staff displaying the badge are aware of the responsibilities that come with supporting this community and are able to provide additional resources, including additional trainings.
