Nicolet College Supports National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week Through Academic Success Programs

Category

As we mark National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, Nicolet College proudly implements programs that support the cause of adult education and family literacy. This week serves as a reminder of the need and value of these programs, not only for individual development but for the growth and progress of our communities.

The Need is Real

Data from the U.S. Department of Education indicates that nearly 43 million adults have low literacy skills, and another 63 million adults struggle with basic math. #AEFLWeek brings focus to the ways we are working together to bridge the gap between this need and the availability of effective, opportunity-building, and life changing education and training. These barriers can prevent individuals from pursuing better job opportunities, helping their children with schoolwork, or even performing daily tasks that many of us take for granted.

Nicolet College's Commitment to Adult Education

At Nicolet College, our Academic Success team is dedicated to bridging this gap. We recognize that every individual's journey is unique, and we are here to provide the support and tools needed for success.

For those aiming to master the English language, our English language learning classes offer a supportive environment where learners can develop their speaking, reading, and writing skills. With our experienced instructors and comprehensive curriculum, students gain the confidence to communicate effectively and integrate into their communities.

For those seeking to complete their high school education, Nicolet offers GED/HSED instruction completely for FREE. Achieving a General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) can open doors to higher education or better job opportunities. Our dedicated educators provide personalized guidance to ensure that each student can achieve their academic goals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that individuals with a high school diploma or GED/HSED on average have a lower unemployment rate and earn over $190 more per week than those who do not.

Join Us in Making a Difference

We invite the Nicolet College community and the public to support and promote adult education and family literacy. In addition to enrolling and spreading the word, community members may also wish to consider making a donation to the Nicolet College Foundation. Gift designated for Academic Success help provide student scholarships and help to eliminate financial barriers such as testing fees.
