Nicolet College's Private Pilot Ground School Ready to Take Flight

Registration for Nicolet College’s annual 10-week Private Pilot Ground School is open. The course is scheduled from March 11 to May 13. Students can learn about the joys of flight, what it takes to become a pilot, and the many career options there are in the aviation field.

Successful completion of the course and online exam-prep will provide necessary knowledge for the FAA Private or Light Sport Pilot written test.

The course is supported by the Aviation Career Pathways Grant, a competitive grant awarded to Nicolet College by the Wisconsin Technical College System.

The Aviation Career Pathways Grant increases Nicolet College’s capacity to provide aviation education to meet current demand and address emerging needs for skilled employees across a range of occupations in the aviation industry.

More than 200 Wisconsin companies have ties to the state's aerospace sector, and more than 26,000 people are employed in Wisconsin by companies that support aviation businesses and aerospace manufacturing. Nicolet College is building collaborative relationships in these industries and the local school districts to increase knowledge regarding career opportunities available and to provide practical experiences to those interested in these industries.

The College will acquire an FAA-approved flight simulator and several drones through the Aviation Career Pathways Grant, enhancing students’ hands-on learning. The flight simulator will give student pilots basic flight experience before moving on to actual flight training. Drones will feature in a new program for FAA Drone Certification.

Nicolet College is partnering with Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton to provide transfer opportunities for aviation students to earn an associate degree or technical diploma. The goal is for students to transfer aviation and general education courses from Nicolet College into FVTC aviation programs. Students may then choose to pursue further education at University of Wisconsin Oshkosh or Purdue Global for a bachelor’s degree.

Nicolet College is an FAA Authorized Written Exam Testing Center.
