Nicolet Players Present the Heartfelt Classic Steel Magnolias, May 19-21, 25-28
The Nicolet Players are producing an audience favorite this May. Steel Magnolias, by Robert Harling, chronicles the lives of six strong, southern women living in Louisiana in the 80s.
This is not the first time the Nicolet Players have produced this play. Under the direction of Jim Nuttall, the first production opened in the 80s as the play was premiering Off-Broadway, largely due to Nuttall’s persistence in calling the licensing organization. Returning to the production is Audrey Thurn, who worked behind the scenes during the first production. Audiences can look forward to her playing Ouiser, the role Shirley MacLaine portrayed in the film adaptation.
“I’m filled with excited anticipation for the performances of Steel Magnolias,” Thurn shared. “This brings it full circle for me as I was a stage hand for Steel Magnolias many years ago when Jim Nutall was the Director. I look forward to getting to know the cast and crew, enjoying the relationships that will be built, and camaraderie that occurs both on and off stage. I am eager to perform in front of a live audience.”
Rounding out the cast are actors from Minocqua, Tomahawk, and Rhinelander: Bobbie Keso-Mode as Clairee, Sara Osterberg as M'Lynn, Kendra Richter as Annelle, Olivia Taylor as Shelby, and Natalie Watland as Truvy. Kerry Bloedorn will provide the voice of the Radio Announcer.
“I was absolutely blown away by the sheer amount of talent we saw during auditions,” said Nicolet Players Artistic Producer K. Woodzick, who serves as the director for the production. “This play holds a special meaning for many people. Whether you’ve seen the play or movie before, or will be discovering it for the first time with our production, this promises to be a night of laughter and tears that will stay with you.”
Audiences should note that beer, wine and concessions will be available for purchase for the evening shows and complimentary cookies and coffee will be provided during the Sunday matinees.
Scenic, Sound and Lighting Design for the show are all by Nicolet College Theatre and Event Services Manager, Mike Effinger. Ash Garnder serves as the Assistant Director and will oversee the hair and makeup design. The Costume Designer is Louise Caroselli, and Prop Design is by Stephanie King.
All Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances will start at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 general public, $8 for students and can be purchased online at nicoletlive.com.
