Nicolet Student Club Hosts 8th Annual Northwoods Pride Festival with ArtStart

The Nicolet College Rainbow Hodags Student Club will co-host the Northwoods Pride Festival with ArtStart on June 15 at Hodag Park in Rhinelander.

“Northwoods Pride is an amazing way for people in the LGBTQ+ community to know they aren’t alone,” said Hannah Rumney vice president of the Rainbow Hodags Student Club. “Being part of the community in a rural area can be hard but having a Pride celebration dedicated to the Northwoods helps people come together.” This is Rumney’s second year working as a pride committee member. Rumney just graduated from Nicolet College with her Associate of Science degree in April.

The Northwoods Pride Festival aims to hold a safe space for diverse members of our community who identify as LGBTQ+ and community members who would like to learn more about the LGBTQ+ culture. It is a celebration filled with educational opportunities, community resources, food, and entertainment.

“We welcome the stories of our friends, co-workers, neighbors, and families. We would like to know what challenges they have faced, the successes they’ve had, and the opportunities that lie before them,” said Di Wu, committee president of the Northwoods Pride Festival. “In highlighting and celebrating the range of the LGBTQ+ community, through better awareness, we become a stronger and more dynamic Northwoods where everyone has the freedom to thrive.”

Admission to attend the 8th Annual Northwoods Pride Festival is free. The event at Hodag Park runs from 10 am - 4 pm on June 15.

A Documentary Night will also be hosted prior to the festival from 5 pm -7 pm on June 7 at the theater in the Lakeside Center on the Nicolet College campus. The “Wisconsin Pride Part Two” screening is also free and will be followed by a facilitated community discussion. The film brings hidden LGBTQ+ stories forward and reconsiders Wisconsin’s history in that light.
