Partners in Health: Northwoods Mental Health SIM
Engage with professionals and students from multiple fields while simulating a real-world mental health crisis. Participants will develop a holistic approach to meeting human/patient needs while enhancing their understanding of other professions’ scopes of practice. A standardized patient will portray an individual with suicidal ideations and a history of mental health concerns. Trained healthcare, human services, and law enforcement role-players will assess and assist the patient through simulated ‘real-life’ touchpoints. Participants who don’t play a simulated role will engage with the standardized patient and role-players during debrief sessions and will be engaged throughout the scenario with interactive reflection prompts. A team approach to understanding and improving rural access to mental health care and the social determinants of health will be explored by all.
