Nicolet College Welcomes Dr. Bobbi Fields as Vice President of Academic Affairs
Nicolet College is pleased to announce Dr. Bobbi Fields as its new vice president of academic affairs. Dr. Fields brings over 20 years of experience in the Wisconsin Technical College System, including positions as faculty member, associate dean, and dean. Her career also includes work in the private healthcare sector.
“Dr. Fields brings a wealth of experience, both as an educational leader and a former technical college student,” said Nicolet College President Kate Ferrel. “Her journey, which began at Moraine Park Technical College with an Associate of Arts and Science degree in Supervisory Management, gives her an invaluable perspective. She understands the student experience firsthand and is a servant leader committed to community and lifelong learning.”
Dr. Fields, who earned her Doctor of Education with an Emphasis in Educational and Community Organizations with high honors from the American College of Education, is excited to join the Nicolet College community. She sees her role as an opportunity to further the college’s commitment to excellence and collaboration.
“As the new vice president of academic affairs, I am eager to work with faculty, staff, and students to foster a collaborative and inclusive campus culture, through the development of shared goals important to achieving academic success,” said Fields. “I am honored to serve Nicolet College in this capacity.”
Dr. Fields said her goals and priorities are centered around fostering strong connections and creating meaningful pathways for students. “I will focus on three priorities: strengthen community engagement, develop new academic programs and credentials, and create innovative learning opportunities across academic programs by enhancing initiatives that already exist and developing new initiatives,” Fields said.
“One of my primary goals is to develop academic programs and credentials that cater to students at every stage of their educational journey. This includes creating flexible learning options and support systems to help all students succeed. Additionally, I plan to work closely with our Kindergarten-12th grade partners to ensure a seamless transition for students moving into higher education. Initiatives like high school academies will be pivotal in preparing students for college-level work or the workforce. Strengthening transfer and articulation agreements with four-year universities is also a key priority, ensuring that our students can continue their education smoothly and without losing credits,” explained Fields.
“Dr. Fields is an influential and strategic leader with demonstrated higher education experience and a strong commitment to quality, research, and results,” President Ferrel noted. “She brings experience and expertise in teaching, curriculum development, regulatory compliance, and accreditation, and her hands-on approach will be invaluable as we continue to focus on academic excellence and student success.”
Dr. Fields plans to expand credit for prior learning programs, which recognize students’ previous experiences and allow them to progress more efficiently toward a degree. She also plans to expand experiential learning opportunities, such as internships and service-learning projects, to help students gain practical skills and improve employability, while also growing enrollment.
Dr. Fields’ philosophy of community engagement aligns closely with Nicolet College’s dedication to supporting its local community. “Our engagement with community organizations and the public is vital for addressing local needs and fostering a sense of community,” Fields explained. She is committed to building strong partnerships that support both students and the entire community.
Research shows that students who pursue higher education locally are more likely to stay and contribute to their communities post-graduation. Dr. Fields aims to leverage this data by fostering a sense of belonging and purpose for students within their community, thereby encouraging them to remain in the Northwoods.
“Through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to service, we can make a lasting impact,” said Dr. Fields. “By providing high-quality education and fostering strong community connections, we support local economic growth and community development.”
Dr. Fields officially began serving as Nicolet College vice president of academic affairs on August 19.
