Nathan Zorn, an admissions representative, and Tyler Ruppert, an academic success coach, at Nicolet College, graduated from Leadership Oneida County on Thursday, May 9, marking the culmination of months of community leadership training.

"Participating in Leadership Oneida County opened my eyes to just how great our community is," said Ruppert. "For the students I advise, I learned of many resources available in Oneida County. I was able to identify how my role as a success coach at Nicolet College can assist students on an educational pathway that will transform their lives and enrich the community."

Zorn and Ruppert, along with their respective project team members, embarked on missions to design, implement, and promote community-focused projects to enhance civic engagement and community development.

Ruppert's team focused on community mentoring, by partnering with Rhinelander High School to help grow their mentoring program and promote community involvement.

"Our project’s goal was to promote communication between Rhinelander High School students and the community," explained Ruppert. "We also hope that this mentoring program grows so that other school districts in Oneida County may decide to start similar programs.”

Zorn's team created a volunteer opportunity calendar, which will serve as a centralized, web-based platform for Rhinelander area organizations to display their volunteer opportunities. The calendar will be available to Rhinelander area nonprofits and community-focused projects on the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce website.

“Leadership Oneida County enhanced my understanding of the collective economic, educational, civic, social, and environmental endeavors of Oneida County, said Zorn. “It fostered a greater appreciation for the individuals and organizations who strive to make Oneida County a desirable place to live and work.”

The Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce hosts this leadership program to connect participants and improve the community. Nicolet College supports such initiatives as part of its commitment to community engagement and empowering its employees to take leadership roles that make a positive impact.
