1.17 Location Policy

Reviewed & Updated: August 2024

Institutions are required to determine the location in which its students and prospective students are located for the purpose of enrollment and disclosing state-specific professional licensure information, in accordance with 34 CFR Sec. 668.43.

A student’s location is determined upon the submission of an application for admission or other registration form. A student’s initial location is documented in Nicolet College’s official student information system of record (SIS). Location is defined as a student's mailing address while engaged in their academic program.

Continuing students are required to review and update their address annually through the Student Information Form as part of the client reporting process. Students can additionally update their mailing address at any time via the self-service function of the SIS.

Nicolet College maintains a list of Professional Licensure by State; this list shows which Nicolet College programs satisfy requirements for professional licensure or certification in  Wisconsin as well as other states. Prospective students located in states where the College does not meet those requirements, or where a determination has not been made, will be notified to this end.

Once notified, students seeking a face-to-face program may be enrolled even if their location is in a state designated as 'Does Not Meet' or 'Not Determined', unless the student would qualify as a distance education student.  A distance education student is defined as a student who enrolls in at least one online/distance education course during the first term of enrollment. If a student would be deemed a distance education student, the student should not be enrolled*.

*Students who wish to enroll, against the recommendation of Nicolet College, must complete a written attestation that they intend to work in a state where the College's program meets licensure requirements at the conclusion of their coursework. Only when the attestation is received and becomes part of the student's educational record may the student enroll in that program.
