Specialty Culinary Arts Classes Coming to Nicolet College February 8 and March 8
Any foodies looking to up their culinary arts game are invited to attend two upcoming classes at Nicolet College that takes food preparation and presentation to the next level.
Introduction to Cured and Smoked Foods will take place Wednesday, Feb. 8, followed by the second class, Canapés: The Importance of the First Bite, Wednesday, March 8.
Both will also be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Culinary Arts Dining Room and Kitchen located in the Northwoods Center on the Nicolet Campus.
"It’s always fun to take a little more of a deep dive into these niche topics,” said Nicolet Culinary Arts Instructor and Chef Mitch Below, who will lead each class.
“I think of each as really just another arrow in someone’s culinary quiver. Each topic really adds originality, uniqueness, and of course deliciousness to any tasty adventure.”
Classes are open to both the general public and those working professionally in the culinary arts field.
The Cured and Smoked Foods offering will explore many different aspects of this ancient craft including the science behind each method. Other topics will include curing versus brining, building and maintaining a fire, hot smoke versus cold smoke, as well as good smoke versus bad smoke.
Canapés: The Importance of the First Bite will explore the diverse possibilities of these tasty bites as well as their four basic elements: the base, the spread, a topping, and a garnish. From there, students will learn strategic assembly techniques and the best ways to build and use a garnish.
Cost for each class is $55 or $47.83 for those 62 and older. Click here to register.
